Built on Chromium 63.0.3239.108, Opera 50 is considered the first web browser to block websites using users' computers for illegal bitcoin mining. This new feature is called NoCoin, preventing bitcoin theft mining integrated into Opera's ad blocker. Users can easily activate this feature in the Settings window, under the Recommended lists of ad filters section in the Block ads category. After releasing Opera 50 Beta RC, which blocked bitcoin mining and supported VR360 for a while, users can now download Opera 50, the first web browser to block bitcoin mining.
Krystian Kolondra, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Head of Opera's Desktop division, stated: 'Recently, users have been discussing Bitcoin. The rapid increase in the value of bitcoin has led to more users and websites mining this cryptocurrency by running scripts on other users' computers.' 'We provide users with a solution to prevent unauthorized bitcoin mining on their computers. This solution is integrated into the browser's ad blocker.'
