Recently announced laptop GPUs, the GeForce RTX 2050 and MX 500, have had their performance benchmarks leaked shortly after NVIDIA unveiled them. Unexpectedly, the performance scores from the 3DMark Time Spy test were leaked.
These are all low-end GPU models designed to replace integrated GPUs provided by AMD and Intel for laptops, aiming to deliver better performance. The technical specifications may be complex, and the performance of these GPU models could be disappointing if these benchmarks are accurate.
GeForce RTX 2050 is based on the GA107 GPU core with up to 2,048 CUDA cores and runs on a 64-bit bus interface. The graphics card has a boost clock speed of up to 1,477 MHz and a TGP of up to 45 W. The GPU features 4 GB of GDDR6 memory with a speed of 14 Gbps, but it runs on a 64-bit bus interface with a bandwidth of 112 GB/s. As for the GeForce MX 550, the card uses the Turing TU117 architecture, with only 1,024 CUDA cores and a 64-bit bus interface with 2 GB of memory.

An interesting aspect of these new GPUs is that their TDP will not only determine the GPU boost clock speed but also the memory clock speed. Memory clock speeds increase to 14 Gbps at 40-45 W, while they drop to only 12 Gbps at 25-35 W. At the lowest 20 W level, memory clock speeds decrease to just 11 Gbps. RTX 2050 running at 30-45 W gives us a memory speed of 14 Gbps, faster than MX 570 running at only 15-25 W.

Now onto the benchmarks, RTX 2050 and GeForce MX 570 are said to provide nearly identical graphics performance, scoring around 3,369 points. In comparison, GeForce MX 550 scores 2,510 points. Compared to GeForce RTX 3050, graphics performance will be lower by 40-45%, and that's on the same architecture. This level of performance is equivalent to the GTX 1660 series at the current time.

On the flip side, NVIDIA GeForce MX550 seems to have somewhat disappointing results, especially when considering the leaked AMD Ryzen 6000 'Rembrandt' APU score of 2,700 points in 3DMark Time Spy. It appears that MX550 will be on par with or even inferior to AMD's RDNA 2 iGPU.

We'll have to wait a bit longer until this GPU is released to see if there have been any improvements compared to the previous model.
