I. Người mới bắt đầu
Chiến lược mà tôi sử dụng để cải thiện kỹ năng nói tiếng Anh IELTS ở trình độ này là tự nói một mình. Có lẽ mọi người sẽ nghĩ đó là hơi kỳ quặc một chút, nhưng đúng vậy đó là cách giúp bạn phát triển khả năng lưu loát và tự tin hơn. Ví dụ, khi bạn đứng trước tủ lạnh không biết nên ăn gì, hãy tự nói lớn:
‘What should I eat? If I eat healthy food like a salad, 2 boiled eggs, and apple juice, my body will stay fit. But today I really crave pasta, oh my god, just thinking about the tasty sauce with cream cheese makes me feel crazy. Okay, just for today”
Whenever you Mytourare to do something, say it out loud. But NOTICE, don't worry about grammar. If you focus on grammar, you'll stumble while speaking. And gradually, you'll feel demotivated. If you can't say a complete sentence, add more words. That means, whatever word in Vietnamese you say, try switching it to English.
II. Intermediate
Of course, after a period of learning English vocabulary and practicing daily IELTS speaking, you'll improve in grammar and English. Therefore, as you progress from elementary level, you also need to upgrade your speaking skills.
Try to speak a long string of English vocabulary words that you know. At this level, I believe you won't add unnecessary words anymore and can completely speak basic English sentences quite well. Also, before going to bed, spend some time practicing IELTS speaking about what you've experienced in a day. It's like writing a diary, but in audio form.
At this level, I advise you to pay attention to accents. I prefer the American accent and watch Netflix a lot. If you don't want to spend money, take advantage of YouTube - a quality and free source for accent training. For American accents, I often watch Rachel's English, and for British accents, I recommend BBC Learning English.
III. Advanced
Upon reaching this level, I recommend speaking along with English audios. Don't wait until they finish speaking, but speak immediately after they finish a sentence. It's like speaking on the run. To combine listening practice, I often speak along with TED Talks. At this level, focus on the speaking topics and practice IELTS English speaking with past Speaking test questions.
When it comes to scripts, I suggest that in the beginning of your practice, write down your script to see what you're missing and what needs to be added or adjusted. Later on, try recording your speaking and listen to it each time after you finish speaking. Of course, rely on the outline of ideas to speak rather than a script.
Above are the complete methods to cure 'shyness' and gain confidence in English communication. No longer afraid or hesitant to face the cold faces of Speaking examiners. Mytour hopes that you can effectively practice IELTS English speaking at home to achieve high band scores as targeted!
