Tacos are known by many names—'crispy tacos,' 'Anglo tacos,' and even 'mom tacos.' Regardless of the term you use, these tacos with the crunchy corn shell can create a unique and sometimes frustrating home dining experience. Yes, I’m talking about that dreaded taco shell split.
Heating them in the oven does help. The warmth activates the oils, making the shell more flexible and less likely to crack. However, if you want to really strengthen the foundation of your taco, try melting a little cheese inside the shell before adding your fillings.

This idea—courtesy of Reddit user u/hyteck9—is a winner. Not only does it give me an excuse to pile on more cheese, but it also works. While my shell did crack a bit, the breaks happened along the top of the shell. The bottom, softened by the cheese’s extra fat, held strong until the very last bite.
Using cheese as a taco shell binder is simple. Just sprinkle some shredded cheese along the bottom, then lean it against the side of an oven-safe dish (I used a cast iron pan). Bake at 350℉ until the cheese is melted, then add your usual fillings—plus more shredded cheese—and enjoy.
