2.1. Concept of the sample (Vietnamese)

• Đề bài Describe your house/ Describe your dream house yêu cầu thí sinh miêu tả căn nhà mơ ước của mình, trong đó cần đưa ra những thông tin:

Below is a sample IELTS Speaking Part 2 on the theme Describe your house/ Describe your dream house:

Today, I’m here to share with you my aspiration for a penthouse that has always been in my dreams. Currently, my entire family and I reside in a type of townhouse situated in the heart of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. However, in the future, once I achieve success and become a self-made billionaire, I envision owning a penthouse for myself. 

I have crafted a vivid picture of my dream apartment, inspired by “The penthouse: War in life”, a Korean television series that was the talk of the town during the summer of 2021. Initially, my ideal unit would be located on the highest floor of Hera Palace, a 100-story building nestled in the bustling center of Seoul. This place symbolizes the residence of the Korean elite. The higher the unit, the greater the social prestige of its owner. 

From the topmost floor, I can relish a breathtaking vista of towering skyscrapers, bustling thoroughfares, and an endless stream of vehicles. During the night, the starlit sky casts a romantic glow, illuminating the entire cityscape from a distance. 

In terms of amenities, this penthouse boasts state-of-the-art technology and labor-saving appliances. Consequently, the furnishings exude opulence and grandeur. 

Given these factors, it is easy to comprehend why many young individuals aspire to be its proud owner, and I am certainly no exception.

The former is favored by young married couples with some savings or individuals with stable incomes due to its typically high price range, while the latter is gaining popularity among college students or those with limited income because of its affordability.

Conversely, single-family homes in rural settings appear to be more favored among the elderly, who, at that stage of life, seek a residence that allows them to escape urban hustle and bustle.

In my opinion, there are numerous differences between houses and apartments, with the most notable ones being access to facilities and flexibility in design. Concerning the former, apartment dwellers often enjoy greater access to amenities like shopping centers and gyms because their residences are typically part of modern developments that have already integrated these conveniences into their community.

Regarding the latter, it is widely acknowledged that homeowners find it easier to customize or renovate their dwellings as they exercise full authority over their property. Conversely, apartment owners lack that privilege, usually needing approval from the building management or owner when altering their units.
