For me, my first year at university was the most delightful and unforgettable period of my educational journey. I was 19 years old, studying English Language at a university in Hanoi.
Initially, I was thrilled to explore new subjects like law, presentation skills, and negotiation, as I found subjects like Maths and Geography in high school rather dull. Despite the challenges, I managed to excel in exams. Additionally, university life allowed me to expand my social circle and connect with like-minded individuals. Fortunately, I formed close friendships with four people from different parts of the country.
I also cherished this time because it pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to try new experiences. Admittedly, having grown up in a small village on the outskirts of the city, this was my first taste of independence. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I even spent a night out with my roommate, something I had never done before due to the curfews set by my parents. We explored Hanoi, visited a late-night cafe, had supper, and even went to the flower market in the early hours of the morning.
Despite the initial challenge of adapting to a new life and overcoming homesickness, I treasure this period as a pivotal moment in my personal development.
