III. Sample Speaking: Discussing a place you've visited
I consider myself a wanderlust, a person who loves traveling because whenever I get the opportunity, I’ll hit the road. I have explored numerous destinations, both in Vietnam and abroad, and now I’d like to share my experience of the latest place I've visited. It is Hakone, a picturesque town in Japan.
I traveled there last spring on a solo journey to Japan. I came across this destination through a recommendation from a local friend while researching travel destinations online. She was also my companion during my visit to Hakone. To reach the town, I took a train from Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station to Hakone’s Yumoto Station via Odakyu Railway. Another option is to use Japan Railways, albeit at a slightly higher cost.
Despite being familiar with Hakone's allure, I was still amazed upon arrival. Even from the train windows, I could see the majestic Mount Fuji in the distance, a sight I had longed to witness. Upon reaching Sounzan Station, I met my Japanese friend and embarked on the first leg of our journey, the ropeway, to explore Hakone. Not only did the cable car offer a closer view of Mount Fuji, but it also provided a unique perspective of the volcanic valley of Owakudani, with its barren mountainside and billowing plumes of steam. This area, once known as Hell Valley, is an active volcanic zone.
My friend insisted that I try the black eggs, a local delicacy in Hakone. These eggs, boiled in the natural hot springs of Owakudani, have shells turned black by the minerals, and according to local belief, consuming one extends life by seven years. However, to be honest, they tasted no different from regular hard-boiled eggs to me.
She also introduced me to onsens, traditional Japanese hot springs, which are a hallmark of Hakone. It was truly a divine experience.
Overall, the trip exceeded my expectations. The memories of my time in Hakone still linger vividly, even though a year has passed.
