What kind of good news do people often share in the community?5. Do most people like to share good news with others?6. Do people like to hear good news from their friends?
1. Is it beneficial to share something on social media?
It depends on the message you're conveying.
If you're sharing positive news about your personal life with family and friends or uplifting content like dog photos or motivational quotes, then there's no harm in it. These kinds of positive messages should be spread more on social media, unlike negative news, controversial topics, or complaining posts that dominate online platforms and contribute to people's endless scrolling.
However, if someone shares overly personal details on Facebook with strangers, such as private family matters, it might be considered inappropriate.
- uplifting (adj): tích cực
- motivational (adj): tạo động lực, tạo cảm hứng
- polarizing (adj): gây tranh cãi
- doomscrolling (n): việc đọc rất nhiều tin tức tiêu cực trên mạng xã hội
2. Should the media exclusively focus on publishing positive news?
Absolutely not.
On one side of the argument, many contend that there is an overwhelming amount of negative news in both traditional media and online platforms. The extensive coverage of crime, disasters, and similar events could lead people to develop a pessimistic view of the world. Therefore, to safeguard mental well-being, media outlets might consider refraining from covering negative news and focus solely on positive information, which is a valid perspective.
However, on the contrary, I maintain that negative news serves a purpose. Highlighting issues can draw attention from authorities, prompting action. For instance, if a newspaper reports a rise in crime rates in a neighborhood, it could lead to increased police presence. This also serves as a preventative measure, as residents may exercise more caution when in that area. Moreover, negative news provides insight into the real-world issues beyond one's immediate surroundings. Ignoring these realities by only highlighting positive news does not contribute to a better understanding of the world.
- gloomy (adj): U ám
- cautionary (adj): cảnh báo, cảnh tỉnh
- vigilant (adj): cảnh giác
- sugarcoat (v): làm cho cái gì trở nên tích cực hơn
3. How does social media facilitate access to information?
It significantly enhances the availability of news. Today, with an internet connection, individuals can access social media and read articles from major newspapers like The Guardian or The New York Times regardless of their location. Social media platforms, such as Facebook, utilize sophisticated algorithms to identify and promote news content to users, tailoring their news reading experience effectively.
- accessibility (n): khả năng tiếp cận
- algorithm (n): thuật toán
4. What types of positive news are commonly shared within communities?
Typically, a variety of events, but prominently, people often share significant milestones in their lives, such as graduations, engagements, and occasionally anniversaries. Moreover, many individuals share their accomplishments online, such as receiving a notable promotion or gaining admission to a prestigious university.
- momentous (adj): quan trọng
- milestone (n): cột mốc
5. Do most individuals enjoy sharing positive news with others?
Indeed, for the most part, this is true. Sharing good news amplifies joy due to the numerous congratulatory responses received. Consequently, when something positive occurs, many people promptly inform their friends and family, and some may even post on social media for a broader audience. Even those who prefer privacy and do not wish to divulge personal details to acquaintances are likely to share significant events with close friends.
6. Are people receptive to hearing positive news from their friends?
Absolutely, it's an integral aspect of friendship. When you're close to someone, their joy becomes your joy. Therefore, naturally, you'd want to hear positive news from them and celebrate those moments together. The only exception would be if you have a disingenuous friend who feels envy whenever good things happen to you but not to them. In such cases, they might not appreciate hearing good news from you.
