I’m going to talk about the first time I organized a volunteer event at my high school. Eight years ago, when I was 16, I came across an article about a girl who conducted numerous initiatives to preserve the environment and appealed for contributions from individuals to assist in cleaning the streets in her hometown. At that moment, I was inspired to undertake similar altruistic endeavors for those around me.

Although there were ongoing projects like hers in my town, the participation of young people like me was scarce. Despite my initial assumption that my parents wouldn't be supportive, I mustered up the courage to discuss with them my intention to embark on a similar venture. To my surprise, my parents not only agreed to support me but also provided insightful suggestions on how to execute the project.

With the backing of my family, I reached out to my friends for assistance. We established a Facebook group and sought advice from our teachers. After two weeks of concerted effort, we took our first step by organizing an event and distributing gifts to children at the SOS Children’s Village in our locality.

Our primary hurdle at the time was financial constraints, given our age and lack of resources; thus, we had to solicit funds. It was a novel experience for me to stand before my classmates not for a routine presentation but to appeal for monetary support. Initially taken aback, my classmates eventually rallied behind the cause, generously contributing. The event was a resounding success, prompting students from other classes to reach out and offer their assistance.

To this day, I remain profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of my family and friends. Without their encouragement, I wouldn't have had the courage and conviction to undertake such a meaningful endeavor.
