1. What is your opinion on online advertising?
I would describe it as a complicated relationship between online ads and myself. At times, I find them quite invasive and overly targeted, especially when social media platforms use my personal data to suggest videos tailored to me. Nevertheless, some of those viral videos can be incredibly amusing and entertaining to watch, and occasionally, I discover discount codes for purchasing items on platforms like Shopee or Lazada, which proves to be quite advantageous.
2. Are there remarkable online advertisements?
As previously mentioned, some can provide significant benefits, particularly when marketing teams exert great effort to create meaningful content that addresses societal issues or meets customer needs. For instance, in an era where gender equality is highly valued, it is meaningful when companies offer more gender-neutral products that cater to everyone. However, advertisements must genuinely reflect this aspect, rather than merely featuring playful lines for entertainment purposes.
3. What products do people usually purchase?
I honestly don't know because we all have different needs. But I suppose all consumers require basic necessities like food, beverages, or shelter. Additionally, we allocate budgets for entertainment and education, such as books, movie tickets, entrance fees to recreational facilities, or subscriptions like Netflix. Lastly, for hobbies, people may splurge on whatever they fancy. As a fashion enthusiast, I purchase hundreds of new items each year to maintain a stylish appearance. Others might opt for flowers, cigars, or perfumes.
4. What's the reason behind the joy people feel when buying new things?
What drives people to feel happiness from acquiring new items? Well, it's difficult to pinpoint, but from personal experience, it could relate to the thrill of achieving goals, like having enough funds to buy dream products. Moreover, there's satisfaction in the belief that our lives or standards of living will markedly improve with new acquisitions, such as a home. What emotions typically follow a property purchase? Optimism, as it signifies potential financial security without rent obligations.
5. Are people exposed to irrelevant advertisements in today's world?
Possibly yes, or at least I must endure them. Many youngsters like myself, unable to afford premium subscriptions on platforms like YouTube or Spotify, spend precious time enduring repetitive, irrelevant ads before accessing videos or favorite songs. It's unfortunate that such advertisements persist!
6. Do you believe there is an excess of advertising in our daily lives?
Absolutely, yes. Every day, as soon as we wake up and unlock our phones to browse the internet, we are inundated with numerous advertisements for gambling apps, clothing items, cosmetics, medications… you name it. Then, during our commute by bus to work or school, we encounter visuals promoting educational institutions, music concerts, or throat lozenges. It's truly frustrating to face ads every single day.
