Once the basket was prepared, the little girl donned her red cloak and bid her mother farewell.
“Remember, go straight to Grandma’s house,” her mother warned. “Don’t linger on the way and please avoid talking to strangers! The forest can be perilous.”

Suddenly, the wolf emerged beside her.

“I’m heading to see my Grandma who lives deep in the forest, by the stream,” replied Little Red Riding Hood.
Realizing how late it was, she quickly excused herself and hurried down the path to her Grandma’s cottage.
Meanwhile, the wolf decided to take a shortcut…
The wolf, slightly breathless from running, arrived at Grandma’s house and gently knocked on the door.
“Oh thank heavens, dear! Please come in, come in! I was so worried that something might have happened to you in the forest,” Grandma exclaimed, thinking the knock was her granddaughter.
The wolf entered. Poor Granny didn't have a chance to say another word before the wolf devoured her!
The wolf let out a satisfied burp, then rummaged through Granny’s wardrobe to find a nightgown he liked. He added a frilly nightcap and, for good measure, dabbed some of Granny’s perfume behind his pointy ears.
A few moments later, Little Red Riding Hood knocked on the door. The wolf leaped into bed and pulled the covers over his nose. “Who’s there?” he called in a hoarse voice.
“It’s me, Little Red Riding Hood.”
“Oh, how wonderful! Please come in, my dear,” wheezed the wolf.
As Little Red Riding Hood stepped into the cozy cottage, she could hardly recognize her Grandmother.
“Oh, I just have a slight cold,” squeaked the wolf, punctuating with a cough to prove his point.
“But Grandma! What big ears you have,” exclaimed Little Red Riding Hood as she moved closer to the bed.
“The better to hear you with, my dear,” responded the wolf.
“But Grandma! What enormous eyes you have,” exclaimed Little Red Riding Hood.
“The better to see you with, my dear,” replied the wolf.
“But Grandma! What sharp teeth you have,” said Little Red Riding Hood, her voice trembling slightly.
“The better to devour you with, my dear,” growled the wolf as he leaped out of bed and began chasing the little girl.
Just in time, Little Red Riding Hood realized that the person in the bed was not her Grandmother, but a hungry wolf.
She dashed across the room and out the door, shouting, “Help! Wolf!” as loudly as she could.
He seized the wolf and forced him to spit out poor Grandma, who was a bit shaken by the whole ordeal but still unharmed. “Oh Grandma, I was so frightened!” cried Little Red Riding Hood, “I’ll never talk to strangers or linger in the forest again.”
“There, there, my child. You have learned a valuable lesson. Thank goodness you shouted loud enough for this kind woodsman to hear you!”
The woodsman knocked out the wolf and carried him deep into the forest where he wouldn’t trouble anyone again.
