The Vietnamese people are a nation born with many children who love their country. Among them, the one most cherished, respected, and grateful by the entire nation is Uncle Ho – the great leader of the Vietnamese people, national liberation hero, and a world cultural figure.
Uncle Ho, our great leader, and national hero, embarked on his journey to save the country in 1911. He left with nothing but his determination and worked tirelessly in harsh conditions. Driven by his love for the country, willpower, and resolve, he traveled to faraway France, joining the French Communist Party, and later to Soviet Russia, where he was inspired by Marxism-Leninism. With these ideas, he returned to Vietnam in 1930 and founded the Communist Party of Indochina. For 30 years, Uncle Ho fought in foreign lands and then returned to lead the revolutionary struggle at home. In 1945, the Vietnamese Democratic Republic was born under his leadership, and he became the first president of the country. His leadership helped Vietnam achieve independence, with notable victories such as the historic Battle of Dien Bien Phu, which shook the world.
Uncle Ho was not only a great leader but also a cultural figure, admired worldwide for his intellectual prowess. Along his journey to save Vietnam, he learned and spoke many languages, wrote for newspapers in France exposing the crimes of French colonialists, and during his imprisonment by the Kuomintang, he composed "Prison Diary," a series of 133 poems in Chinese. This literary work is a testament to his resilience and his deep love for the country. Despite the challenges, he continued writing, producing beautiful poems such as "Night Scene," "Full Moon of the First Month," and "Reflections at Pác Bó," which inspire us even today.
When peace came to the country, and Vietnam began its development and integration into the world, Uncle Ho’s thoughts and legacy continue to guide the Vietnamese people. His teachings, particularly the Five Teachings for Youth, remain a moral compass, and it is our duty to study, live, and follow his example to become citizens who contribute to society.

"Thap Muoi is the most beautiful with its lotus flowers
Vietnam is the most beautiful with the name of Uncle Ho"
Ho Chi Minh was a great leader, the beloved father of the Vietnamese people. He was the symbol, the heart, and the soul of the Southern region of our country. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to the country, becoming the greatest leader of the Vietnamese nation, a national hero who freed the people, and a cultural icon of the world.
Ho Chi Minh, a remarkable figure and the leader of a nation, embodied the finest qualities. Born into a patriotic Confucian family, he developed a deep love for his country and a strong sense of national identity. In 1911, at the age of 21, he left Vietnam from the Saigon port, starting his journey to find a way to save the country. After thirty years of traveling abroad, he worked in many difficult jobs, while also seeking a righteous path for the nation, guiding the people toward independence. With his revolutionary ideals, he faced countless dangers without fear, leading our people to victory in the resistance against both the French and Americans. His military genius is evident in the many victories of our people, a testament to his brilliance as a strategist. Ho Chi Minh was not only a liberator but also the guiding light in our darkest hours.
His greatness is also reflected in his humble life, his approach to others, and his deep affection for the Vietnamese people. He always cared for everyone—from children to the elderly. His simplicity left an indelible mark on all who met him. His words were full of moral teachings, but they were never dry; they were soft, profound, and easily touched the heart. Ho Chi Minh's lifestyle mirrored his philosophy: a life dedicated entirely to serving the nation and the people. As he once said, "Throughout my life, my greatest desire is for our country to be independent, for our people to be free, and for everyone to have enough to eat and wear." He was deeply concerned about the daily lives of the people, treating them as his own children. His empathy for the suffering of the people was immense, and he lived simply, as the common folk did in the countryside. The image of him wearing a faded khaki suit, rubber sandals, and his silver beard, along with his caring words, will forever be etched in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.
"Uncle, your heart is vast like the sea,
Embracing the entire land and all lives."
(By To Huu)
Not only a brilliant leader and military strategist, but Ho Chi Minh was also an artist, a poet, and a world-renowned cultural figure. His life was not only that of a soldier but also that of a poet. With his article "The Wretched People," he exposed the hypocrisy and crimes of the French colonizers. Ho Chi Minh was also a renowned poet and writer with works like "Prison Diary," "Night Song," and "Sailing on the Day River." His two famous political manifestos—"The Call for Nationwide Resistance" and "The Declaration of Independence"—left a lasting mark on the history of Vietnam. Having traveled across continents, Ho Chi Minh mastered several languages and was deeply knowledgeable about the cultures of various peoples. This helped him form a unique style that blended tradition with modernity, simplicity with sophistication, and the cultural brilliance of humanity with the essence of Vietnamese heritage. His dual identity as a poet and revolutionary hero left a priceless legacy for future generations of Vietnamese youth.
Learning from the moral example of Ho Chi Minh has always been a guiding light for our generation. His teachings of "study well, work well," "be humble, honest, and courageous," and others, remain invaluable lessons for us. The more we learn about Ho Chi Minh, the prouder we become of our small but proud nation that gave birth to such a great man.
Ho Chi Minh was a steadfast communist revolutionary, a hero of the Vietnamese people, and the greatest leader our nation has ever had. He was the embodiment of ideals and faith for every Vietnamese citizen. Though he is no longer with us, it feels as if he continues to watch over our progress. Anyone who dedicates their life to serving the people becomes immortal. And Ho Chi Minh will forever live on with the Vietnamese people and our land.

Who in Vietnam does not know President Ho Chi Minh - the respected leader? An old folk rhyme goes:
The lotus blossom in Thap Muoi is the most beautiful
Vietnam is the most beautiful with the name Uncle Ho.
He is a symbol of the Vietnamese people and the country. Like the leaders of other nations, Ho Chi Minh is first known as a national leader. His entire life was devoted to the liberation of his people. He left to seek a path to save the country as a young man with the passionate heart of youth and deep patriotism. Nguyen Tat Thanh chose to go to the West, enduring hardships and doing many jobs to survive. But it was through these experiences that Ho Chi Minh encountered Marxism-Leninism, discovering the path to national liberation. He directly led the Vietnamese people in the August Revolution and in two wars against French colonialism and American imperialism. Today, the people of Vietnam enjoy peace and happiness thanks to his efforts. But his ideals also deeply influenced the people of colonized nations, who admired and followed him.
Besides his revolutionary career, Ho Chi Minh was also known as an artist. He left a treasure trove of valuable literary works for the Vietnamese nation. His “Declaration of Independence” is considered a timeless masterpiece, not only for its historical value but also for its artistic merit. The poetry collection “Prison Diary” vividly records the difficult life of a revolutionary prisoner, yet still optimistic and full of life. His works became powerful tools in the struggle for independence.
Most notably, Ho Chi Minh's style of living was simple and unpretentious, a result of a blend of global human culture and traditional Vietnamese culture. Throughout his life, Ho Chi Minh traveled to many countries in both the East and West. He worked various jobs to survive, which allowed him to gain a profound understanding of life’s realities. Wherever he went, he learned about the people and culture of those countries, mastering many languages, including French, English, Chinese, and Russian, and gaining deep knowledge of foreign cultures and arts. He not only embraced the beauty of other cultures but also criticized the negative aspects of capitalism. Ho Chi Minh adopted foreign culture selectively while maintaining a “very Eastern, very Vietnamese” lifestyle.
The beauty of Ho Chi Minh’s character came from his simple daily life. Numerous specific and comprehensive examples demonstrate this. Despite being a national leader, he lived in a modest wooden stilt house, which also served as his “palace.” His small stilt house consisted of a few rooms used for receiving guests, holding political meetings, working, and sleeping. His clothes were incredibly simple—often wearing a brown “ba ba” shirt, a military jacket, and simple rubber sandals. His meals were humble, typically consisting of local Vietnamese dishes like braised fish, boiled vegetables, pickled vegetables, and rice porridge. He lived alone with only a small suitcase and a few personal items. In this, we see the image of a simple Vietnamese peasant in Ho Chi Minh, the nation's leader. His modest lifestyle made him feel close and relatable to every Vietnamese person, unlike any other president or leader in the world.
What we must understand is that Ho Chi Minh’s simplicity was not a form of living in opposition to others, but as he said, it was a way to nourish the soul. Each of us should strive to emulate his example: live simply, prioritize spiritual values, and avoid unnecessary material excess. Most importantly, students—the future leaders of the nation—should develop self-discipline to become useful citizens for society.
If one were to write about Ho Chi Minh, a few short lines like these could never fully convey the depth of his character. His life was dedicated entirely to the people of Vietnam, with deep love and devotion. We, the youth of today, are eternally grateful to Ho Chi Minh and will strive to live by his example, becoming worthy children of Vietnam.

Every Vietnamese person, no matter where they are in the country, feels immense pride when talking about President Ho Chi Minh. Countless poems and songs have been written about him, filled with admiration and love.
He is a shining example of integrity. Regardless of the position he held, Ho always fulfilled his role excellently. As a revolutionary leader, he found the right path for the nation's independence, led the people to achieve freedom, and fought tirelessly to protect it. As a writer and poet, he contributed many valuable works to Vietnam's literary heritage, including *The Declaration of Independence*, *The Court Verdict on French Colonialism*, *The Revolutionary Path*, *Prison Diary*, and more. His works not only display great content and artistry but also reflect his deep love for the Vietnamese people and for humanity. He was beloved by both the Vietnamese people and the international community. The Vietnamese call him 'Uncle' and see him as the 'beloved father of the nation'.
What stands out most about Ho Chi Minh is his simple lifestyle, something unlike any other world leader. His way of living was deeply influenced by both human culture and Vietnamese traditions. Throughout his life, Ho Chi Minh faced countless hardships:
“Uncle has returned here, O Homeland!
Remembering, the earth is warm with his presence
Thirty years of walking, never resting
And only now has he arrived!”
(From *Following Uncle*, by To Huu)
During his thirty years of wandering in search of a way to save his country, the young revolutionary met various cultures and gained insights across different fields. Everywhere he went, Ho Chi Minh continued to learn, and this is evident in his command of several foreign languages, including French, English, Chinese, and Russian. He was not only fluent but also wrote in them. He absorbed the finest elements of world cultures, yet he selectively embraced what resonated with him. At the same time, he deeply infused his identity with the Vietnamese culture that remained at the heart of his being. Ho Chi Minh embodied 'a very Vietnamese personality, a simple lifestyle that is quintessentially Vietnamese, very Eastern, yet also modern and forward-thinking.'
Ho Chi Minh’s choice of a modest lifestyle meant he lived differently from any other national leader. His residence, often referred to as his 'palace,' was a small wooden house beside a pond. It had only a few rooms: one for meetings, one for working, and one for sleeping. His furniture was simple and modest. Even his clothes reflected this simplicity: a plain brown outfit, a modest jacket, and rubber sandals. His meals were equally humble, with dishes like braised fish, boiled vegetables, pickled vegetables, salted fish, and rice porridge – foods typical of rural Vietnam. Ho’s way of living is a model of humility and honor, earning the admiration and respect of the Vietnamese people, who feel both proud and grateful for his example.
Not only in his daily life but also in his work and relationships, Ho Chi Minh maintained this simplicity. His circle was small, and he preferred to do things himself when possible, refusing assistance for tasks he could handle. He treated everyone with the same love and concern, like family. He regularly visited collective housing units, wrote letters to comrades, spoke with children in the South, and visited elderly citizens during the Lunar New Year, gifting them presents.
However, it is important to understand that Ho Chi Minh’s simple life was not an attempt to set himself apart or to deify himself. He chose this lifestyle as a means to 'cultivate his soul,' a path that brought him peace of mind and joy. Understanding this helps us appreciate his wisdom and integrity even more.
Indeed, writing about the beloved Ho Chi Minh in just a few lines is insufficient to express the depth of admiration for him. Yet it is clear that every Vietnamese person feels deep respect, love, and pride when mentioning his name.

'He sacrificed his entire life for the country and its people. This is the noble sacrifice of a great leader.'
The lotus flower of Thap Muoi is the most beautiful,
And Vietnam’s greatest beauty is the name of Uncle Ho.
Uncle Ho is the pride of millions of Vietnamese hearts. He was the great leader of the Vietnamese people, a national liberation hero, a world cultural figure, and someone I deeply respect, admire, and am eternally grateful to. Ho Chi Minh’s life is filled with legendary deeds, a story that cannot be summarized in a single lifetime. The era in which he was born was one of great turbulence. The 20th century, a century of immense suffering for the Vietnamese nation, witnessed the people in dire straits, oppressed under the rule of French colonialists. Ho Chi Minh carried with him a burning desire to liberate his people and end the unjust oppression they endured.
With a patriotic heart, the young Nguyen Ai Quoc embarked on a journey to find a path to save the country, even when he had nothing but his bare hands. For thirty long years, he traveled the world, enduring countless hardships. Finally, in Russia, he discovered the revolutionary ideals and path to national liberation. Thirty years was a long time, and during those years, he sacrificed his youth entirely, dedicating it to his beloved homeland. How resolute must his will have been? How unshakable his faith, and how intense his patriotism? He endured trials far beyond what any ordinary person could bear. Only truly great leaders could achieve such feats, and Ho Chi Minh is one of those exceptional figures who shaped the rare miracles of history.
After awakening to revolutionary ideals, he found every way possible to bring those ideals back to his homeland. Returning to Vietnam, he tirelessly led the national revolution, dedicating his entire life to the cause, culminating in the historic victory of the August Revolution in 1945. After years of suffering and hardship, the country finally achieved independence and freedom. Ho Chi Minh sacrificed his whole life for the nation and its people. This is the noble sacrifice of a great leader. Moreover, Ho Chi Minh was also a world-renowned cultural figure. He was an exceptional writer and poet. In his lifetime, he cherished literature and transformed it into a powerful weapon for struggle. He believed in the role of poetry as a form of resistance:
Old poems loved nature's beauty,
Clouds, wind, moon, flowers, snow, mountains, rivers,
But today, poetry must also have steel,
The poet must know how to charge into battle.
(From *Poetry of the Heaven*)
His poems continue to shine like stars in the literary sky. Ho Chi Minh’s literature harmoniously blends tradition with modernity, romanticism with the realism of struggle, national spirit with internationalism. Many of his works have earned admiration from famous authors of his time and beyond, such as *The Tomb* (Evening), *Night Scenery*, *Gazing at the Moon*, *The Full Moon of the First Lunar Month*...
Uncle Ho led a simple life and loved everyone deeply. His simplicity was evident in everything, from his clothing to his meals and his daily interactions. The clothes he wore were often simple fabric garments, sometimes worn-out khaki outfits. His meals, though modest, were never wasteful, and every grain of rice was cherished. This wasn't just due to his noble character but also because he respected the labor of the people who produced the rice. He gave love and care to everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest elder. During the resistance years, he would lie awake at night, concerned about the soldiers and laborers in the forests. 'Milk for the little ones, silk for the elderly.' Even as he approached his final days, Uncle Ho's last wish was for victory in the resistance and for the people to live in peace and happiness. Such a heart is vast and great beyond measure.
As time passes, many things may fade, but Ho Chi Minh’s greatness and boundless love for the people will remain an unchanging symbol in the hearts of all Vietnamese. When we see his kind smile, our hearts ache with sorrow, remembering the day the entire nation bade him farewell: 'Tears flowed from life, and the heavens wept in rain.'

8. Sample Essay 1
"He sat there, in his simple brown robe
With the color of his homeland, strong and deep"
Every Vietnamese person, who loves their country, loves the Fatherland, feels the presence of our great leader, President Ho Chi Minh, every time they gaze upon the silhouette of the nation.
In 1911, from the port of Nhà Rồng, he left to seek a path to save the country, traveling the world for 30 years before returning to his beloved motherland. Since then, he, together with the people, led the revolution, guiding the nation towards freedom. His life was dedicated to the people, and even as he passed, his heart remained filled with concern for the future.
How many people love their country as much as Ho Chi Minh did? From the day he left his homeland, he abandoned all personal attachments—family, friends, and loved ones—embarking on his journey. His love for his country became greater than any individual love, a force that pushed him to persevere through hardships—working long hours, facing hunger, and enduring difficult conditions. For Ho Chi Minh, only through tireless effort could the nation achieve independence and freedom.
Upon returning, he knelt and kissed the soil of his beloved homeland, marking the beginning of his revolutionary life. A country that emerged from poverty and backwardness, but no matter the obstacles, he never gave up, patiently guiding the people through countless battles. Ho Chi Minh taught us: "Long-term resistance will surely lead to victory." His love for his homeland extended to its people—honest, hardworking, and sincere—and to its natural beauty—rich forests and abundant seas. The poet Tố Hữu once remarked: "He cherished everything but himself." He cared for the elderly like his own parents, treated his comrades like brothers, and loved the children like his own sons and daughters. Thus, forever:
He is a father, a leader, a brother
His great heart pumps a hundred small veins
Forever in the hearts of every Vietnamese child, a great heart shaped like a quiet figure, working day and night with a red pencil, "marking the path step by step." His life never rested, and even when he passed away, he still cared deeply for the South. He asked a Southern guerilla, "How is it there now?" He encouraged them to fight bravely, not to worry about him, despite his own frailty. When he passed, the whole of Vietnam mourned, as did the world. He did not die; he merged with the nation, continuing to fight with us in spirit.
With such a monumental legacy, Ho Chi Minh lived simply, even as the President. His stilt house, a few hibiscus bushes, and a palm tree were symbols of his humble roots. Every day, his meals consisted of plain rice and vegetables. He didn't live like a monk in seclusion, but in harmony with the nation's circumstances and the spirit of its development.
His heart, his wisdom, his love, and his character have built an everlasting monument, not just in the hearts of the Vietnamese people but also in the hearts of those around the world who value peace. Even though he has gone, his words remain with us: "The Hung Kings laid the foundation of the nation, and we must preserve it."

10. Sample Essay Number 3
"If we compare the thirty-year-long struggle of our nation against foreign invasion and for the defense of our homeland to a ship sailing through a stormy sea, then President Ho Chi Minh was the brilliant, wise captain who steered the ship through countless storms to the shores of glory. Ho Chi Minh – he is the deepest symbol of faith in the hearts of the people and of humanity. Throughout his life, he sacrificed for independence and freedom..." This is one of the many songs and poems that praise President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader of the Vietnamese people, the national hero, and a global cultural icon.
The Vietnamese people take great pride in Ho Chi Minh because he embodies the very essence of our traditional culture and national identity. The people see in him the epitome of the finest Vietnamese qualities, and the world associates the name of Vietnam with that of President Ho Chi Minh: Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh.
As a revolutionary leader, Ho Chi Minh successfully fulfilled his mission to the people and the nation. He was the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam and, along with the Party, led the nation to break free from colonial and feudal chains, securing the right to live in freedom. The seasoned communist fighter, Nguyen Ai Quoc, became the first president of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a sovereign and independent state. If we compare the thirty-year struggle to defend the homeland to a ship sailing through a stormy sea, then President Ho Chi Minh was the brilliant, wise captain who steered the ship through countless storms to the shores of glory.
The victory at Dien Bien Phu in May 1954 and the success of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign on April 30, 1975, elevated the Vietnamese nation as a heroic and indomitable people, small in size but capable of defeating two colossal colonial powers – France and the United States. Vietnam has become a shining example for oppressed nations around the world to follow.
President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary career was as vast as the mountains and oceans, yet he lived an extraordinarily simple and pure life. Throughout his seventy-nine years, he dedicated himself entirely to the people and the nation. His heartfelt words expressed his noble goals and ideals, moving the hearts of many: "I have only one desire, an overwhelming desire, for my people to have food to eat, clothes to wear, and for everyone to receive an education… This goal, this ideal, is the boundless source of strength that drove me to think, act, and dedicate my life to the people and the nation."
His simple lifestyle resonated deeply with the lives of ordinary people. His meals consisted of just a few dishes of braised fish, boiled vegetables, and pickled eggplant. His home was a modest wooden stilt house, surrounded by a garden and a fish pond. Ho Chi Minh's belief in life was: "Live for others," and he found happiness in contributing to the well-being of others:
He lived like the earth and sky,
Embracing every grain of rice, every flower.
Freedom for every enslaved life,
Milk for the child, silk for the old.
Like a high peak, hidden from sight,
In the green forest, despising false glory.
He wished for his children to grow quickly,
To follow the footsteps of their ancestors, and keep up with him.
(Following in Ho's footsteps, To Huu)
His modesty and simplicity became legendary. After his passing, his stilt house opened its doors to the people of the country and to international friends. No one could remain unmoved by the items that had accompanied him throughout his life: his old typewriter and the worn-out wristwatch on his desk, his rubber sandals with worn soles...
A bamboo bed, a mat, simple blankets and pillows,
A small wardrobe with a few painted shirts.
Ho Chi Minh never demanded the maximum material comforts for himself. On the contrary, he lived serenely and optimistically, adhering to the principles of frugality, integrity, impartiality, and selflessness. However, what he left behind for the people and the nation could be compared to the vast mountains and oceans. The Chinese literary critic and scholar Quach Mat Nhược described Ho Chi Minh as a "great intellect, great humanity, and great courage." With his exceptional intellect, Ho Chi Minh "built a magnificent career with his own hands." His glorious revolutionary career has left a lasting mark in the history of our nation's establishment and defense. Driven by love for his people, who were suffering under colonial oppression, Ho Chi Minh left his homeland to find a path to save his people. His boundless compassion was the source of his revolutionary thought and the strength that propelled him to victory on the path of revolution. Deep in the hearts of every Vietnamese citizen, we all recognize that:
He is the Father, the Uncle, the Brother.
With a big heart, filtering the blood of a hundred generations.
(To Huu)
Before his departure to eternity, Ho Chi Minh wrote in his "Will": "I leave behind boundless love for the entire Party, the entire army, the entire people, for the young children and youth." His passing was an immeasurable loss. Ho Chi Minh became one with the rivers, mountains, and skies of Vietnam – the nation he always cherished.
When we speak of President Ho Chi Minh, the world admires and respects him. Even his enemies bow their heads in reverence because Ho Chi Minh embodied the indomitable spirit of heroism in the fight against foreign invaders. His hatred for war, love for peace, and relentless dedication to a peaceful, prosperous world for all humanity made him a figure of immense influence and inspiration. The World Peace Council honored Ho Chi Minh with the prestigious title of "Warrior for Peace" and "Cultural Icon" of humanity.
President Ho Chi Minh brought glory to the Vietnamese people and the nation. Successive generations have followed the righteous revolutionary path that he set, turning his fervent desires into reality: liberating the South, reunifying the country, and building a prosperous nation that stands proudly among the world's great powers.
