5. Louis Vuitton
Recognized as one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world, Louis Vuitton is synonymous with high-end leather goods, legendary trunks, iconic monogram handbags, luxury watches, jewelry, and cutting-edge fashion. For over a century, the French fashion house has been selling incredibly expensive trunks adorned with its signature intertwined LV logo. Louis Vuitton products, often found in the “if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it” category, have been widely counterfeited and are seen as a symbol of ostentatious wealth.
The iconic intertwined “L” and “V” letters, found on the company’s signature bags, were created by Georges Vuitton, the son of Louis Vuitton, in 1896. Today, this logo is regarded as one of the most recognizable fashion symbols worldwide, alongside other fashion logos like Chanel’s interlocking “C”, Hermès’ horse-drawn carriage, and Gucci’s “G”. The typical price range for a Louis Vuitton wallet is between $1,100 and $6,000. Like other luxury brands, you won’t find a single Louis Vuitton item on sale.
No surprise that a brand as iconic as this one attracts many celebrity fans. The name Louis Vuitton carries almost as much weight as Paris itself. The brand’s fashion shows are frequently graced by A-list celebrities. For instance, at the Fall/Winter 2021 show, tennis superstar Naomi Osaka and actress Jennifer Connelly both attended, admiring the designer’s creations.

10. H&M
The fast fashion industry has exploded, with retailers creating ready-to-wear clothing from the runway in record time. H&M appears to be at the forefront of this movement. Almost everyone owns at least one item from H&M or has stepped foot in one of their stores, largely because the retailer offers a wide range of clothing and accessories at incredibly affordable prices. While some retailers, like Gap, take up to six months to design and produce new styles, H&M does it in just two weeks. Based in Stockholm, H&M employs designers who constantly track fashion trends and incorporate them into new products.
Suppliers around the world help deliver products to stores in less than a month, which may explain why there’s always something new every time you walk into an H&M store. Today, the H&M Group has expanded globally with 4,743 stores in over 50 countries, 4,334 of which are H&M stores. Though it started in Sweden, the U.S. has the most locations with 543, and the brand has a presence in far-flung locations like Cyprus, Macau, Tasmania, and Iceland.
In a bid to reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility, the company launched a clothing collection initiative in 2013. Customers can drop off clothes from any brand at any H&M store worldwide. In exchange for donations, customers receive a 15% discount on their next purchase. Known for its budget-friendly pricing, H&M also owns COS, which offers higher-end products at a premium cost. The company also owns other brands such as Weekday, H&M Home, and Arket.
