Even though the anime portrays a world with omnipotent magic, what the producers want to emphasize is that the real world is raw and powerless. Why must lucky tools be bought with one's own lifespan? In the film, we can observe at least three factions present, but there are also characters who don't belong to any side and merely stand in the middle, profiting from both sides. This is truly a cowardly and passive action. They will quickly be discarded and eliminated in the midst of the battles. Magicaloid 44 is a perfect example of this.
