1. What are the reasons for people reading?
In my view, individuals read for two primary reasons. Firstly, they read books for enjoyment or relaxation. A book can serve as a powerful tool to calm the mind after a long day of work or study. Books offer a form of escape, and when engrossed in a captivating book, your mind can transport you to a completely different world, allowing you to temporarily forget about the challenges in your own life. Secondly, some read to broaden their knowledge and expand their horizons in subjects such as history, science, or philosophy. Depending on the type of books we choose to read, our experiences will vary.

- escapism (noun): lối thoát khỏi sự nhàm chán, khó chịu
- engrossing (adjective): rất thú v, đòi hỏi sự tập trung cao = very interesting
- expand one’s horizons: mở rộng tầm mắt, mang đến trải nghiệm mới
2. How significant do you consider reading to be?
To me, reading is like nourishment for the brain. It greatly enhances brain development and enriches our understanding of various topics. I believe it's crucial to nurture a love for reading in young children, as they are often more drawn to the colors and actions of video games and movies. However, I believe reading provides a more fulfilling form of entertainment; we use our imaginations to visualize scenes and characters, and we can get to know book characters better than those in movies because we often have access to their private thoughts. It's not surprising that many people feel they truly understand the characters they read about when they are privy to their innermost thoughts and motivations, something not typically offered by films.
-
- foster (verb): chăm chút, nuôi dưỡng
3. What types of reading material are currently popular?
I've observed that self-help or personal development books consistently top the bestseller lists. This trend is largely influenced by modern society's fast-paced and competitive nature. People turn to these books to cope with the pressures of contemporary life and to advance themselves. Among younger audiences, fantasy and science fiction books remain perennial favorites. This is likely because young people enjoy immersing themselves in vastly different worlds populated by diverse creatures and characters.

- self-improvement (noun): tự cải thiện bản thân
- get ahead (phrasal verb): vươn lên, dẫn đầu
