IELTS Speaking Part 1 Dreams | Questions & Answers
1. Can you recall a dream you had?
Sample 1: In my experience, research indicates that most dreams are forgotten, making it quite challenging for me to recall them. However, occasionally, I do remember vivid details, especially if the dream was wonderful or, on the contrary, a terrible nightmare.
- challenging: khó khăn
- nightmare: ác mộng
Sample 2: Certainly, but only fragments of dreams. Remembering the entire dream seems impossible! For instance, sometimes I recall faces from the dream but forget the events.
- fractions of ~ bits and pieces: 1 chút
2. Do you share your dreams with others?
Sample 1: To be honest, I don't share them often. Being somewhat of an introvert, I tend to keep things to myself, including my dreams, as they are a private aspect of my life. I only discuss my dreams with others on rare occasions, particularly if they involve those close to me.
- a horrible nightmare
- introvert: người hướng nội
- once in a blue moon: thỉnh thoảng
Sample 2: Only when my dreams are particularly interesting or frightening. Once, for example, I dreamt I was being chased by zombies, which was absolutely terrifying! I shared this with a friend who surprisingly had similar experiences. Perhaps it's because we've watched so many horror movies together.
- terrifying: very scary
3. Do you believe dreams possess special significance?
Sample 1: Certainly. I hold the view that dreams can mirror our emotional state at any given time. When we feel stressed or anxious, our dreams can be quite nightmarish, acting as a signal for us to pay attention to our mental well-being. Conversely, dreaming about someone we have feelings for is quite common as they are often on our minds during the day.
- reflect our state of mind: phản ánh tâm trí chúng ta
- nightmarish (adj): ghê gớm như ác mộng
- take care of our mental health: chăm sóc sức khỏe tinh thần
Sample 2: Absolutely! Dreams can have meaningful implications both spiritually and psychologically. For instance, if a pregnant woman dreams of a dragon or a boy, it is believed she may give birth to a boy soon! Also, psychologists suggest that dreaming about hosting a party could signify feeling under significant pressure at work or school.
- spiritually and psychologically: tâm linh và tâm lý
4. Do you desire to see your dreams materialize?
Sample 1: Honestly, I don’t ponder much about that because I'm not a particularly ambitious person. I don’t harbor any specific aspirations in life and simply go with the flow instead of actively pursuing my desires. However, I greatly admire those who are driven to achieve their dreams.
- ambitious: nhiều khát vọng
- go with the flow: kệ dòng đời đưa đẩy
- realizing their dreams: hiện thực hóa ước mơ
Example 2: If it’s a pleasant dream, then yes! I used to imagine that I could soar! And I mean if it came true, I’d be overjoyed!
- thrilled to bits: very happy
