Despite challenges in the supply chain affecting production, Toyota successfully maintains the title of the top-selling car manufacturer in 2022 with sales approaching 10.5 million units.

Toyota maintains its position as the world's best-selling car brand.
Recently, the title of the best-selling car brand in 2022 has been officially revealed. With sales of nearly 10.5 million units in 2022, Toyota once again maintains its dominance in the global automotive industry. It is noteworthy that this is the third consecutive year the Japanese automaker has held this position.
Specifically, the sales of Toyota cars in 2022 reached 10,438,024 units (including Daihatsu and Hino). Compared to 2021, the business results for 2022 decreased by 0.1%, but it was enough to surpass Volkswagen with a margin of 2 million units.
This achievement is remarkable given the disruptions in Toyota's production and business operations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and semiconductor chip shortages. Notably, Toyota's domestic market sales decreased by 9.6%, with 1.9 million units, while exports increased by 2.3%, with 8.58 million units.
It is known that Toyota's export growth in 2022 did not come from the U.S. market. Toyota North America (including Lexus) only sold 2.1 million cars in 2022, a nearly 10% decrease from 2021.

The high demand in the Asian market is the main reason Toyota maintains its leadership despite supply challenges.
Toyota attributes its ability to maintain leadership to the high demand in the Asian market, despite facing supply challenges. These issues remain unresolved and continue to impact Toyota's production activities. However, most automakers expect the situation to improve in the second half of 2023.
Currently, Toyota aims to achieve a production volume of 10.6 million cars, similar to 2022, provided the supply shortage situation does not worsen.
For Volkswagen, 2022 recorded the lowest sales in a decade, with 8.3 million units sold. The main reasons are the impact of the pandemic and supply chain disruptions.
In fact, Volkswagen was the leading brand in the global car market until Toyota took over in 2020. In 2021, the German manufacturer sold 8.3 million cars, a 7% decrease from the previous year.

In Vietnam, Toyota continues to lead as the best-selling car brand in 2022.
In Vietnam, Toyota maintains its position as the top-selling car brand in 2022 with sales surpassing 91,000 units, outperforming Hyundai with nearly 70,000 units.
Notably, many Toyota models consistently secure positions in the top 10 best-selling cars in the Vietnamese market. For example, the Toyota Vios is the most purchased model in 2022 with sales exceeding 23,500 units, leading over the second-place Accent by nearly 1,000 units. The Toyota Corolla Cross ranks fourth with 21,473 units, and the Toyota Veloz Cross holds the seventh position with sales of 14,104 units.
