Travel Guide: Applying for eVISA in India
India, one of the most populous countries globally, located in South Asia, does not fall under the visa exemption category for Vietnamese citizens. If you plan to travel to this country, you must obtain a visa for entry.


To obtain a visa for India, you can opt for either e-Visa or apply directly at the Indian Embassy in Vietnam. For tourist visas, applying for an e-Visa is the most convenient and straightforward option. Here are the latest updates on applying for an eVISA for travel to India.

Requirements for eVISA in India
To apply for an Indian visa, you must be a citizen of one of the 165 eligible countries.
Your purpose of entry must be tourism, business, or medical reasons.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least 2 blank pages.
The information on your visa application must match exactly with the information on your passport.
You can only enter through authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs), including 29 airports and 5 seaports. Check the list of authorized ICPs HERE.

There are 3 types of tourist visas for India
30-Day Tourist Visa – This visa allows you to stay for 30 days from the date of entry and permits multiple entries during its validity period.
1-Year Tourist Visa – This visa allows multiple entries during its validity period with a maximum continuous stay of 90 days. It is valid for 365 days from the date of issuance.
5-Year Tourist Visa – This visa is valid for 5 years and allows multiple entries during this period. Similar to the '1-Year Tourist Visa,' it allows a maximum continuous stay of 90 days. For citizens of the USA, UK, Canada, and Japan, the maximum continuous stay is 180 days.

Documents to Prepare
– One passport-sized photo: jpg format, minimum file size 10 KB – maximum 1 MB. Minimum dimensions 350 x 350 pixels. The photo must have a white background, taken close to the application date. Your visa application may be rejected if the photo is unclear. Reduce photo size HERE.
– One photo or scan of a passport valid for at least 6 months, in pdf format. Minimum file size is 10 KB, maximum is 300 KB. The uploaded passport photo should contain personal information such as name, date of birth, nationality, expiry date… The details from the passport photo must match the details provided in the application.
Ensure you pay attention to the image size and format, which should be in PDF according to the requirements, to avoid visa rejection due to unclear or incorrect image format. Convert image format from JPG to PDF HERE.

Submit your application online
Once your documents are ready, access the Indian government website HERE, and click on “Apply here for e-visa” to fill out the electronic visa application form. All information must be filled in English. Refer to the sample guide for filling out the electronic visa application form HERE.
Pay the visa fee
After completing the online form and submission, you will receive a code. Print this code and take it to designated banks by the Embassy to pay the visa fee, which includes the visa issuance fee and processing fee, or additional fees in some cases.
Note: Visa issuance fee is non-refundable under any circumstances, whether your visa is approved or not; In case of misinformation, you will be required to pay an additional fee for reapplication.
e-Tourist visa for 30 days (April to June): $10 USD
e-Tourist visa for 30 days (July to March): $25 USD
e-Tourist visa for 1 year: $40 USD
e-Tourist visa for 5 years: $80 USD
Processing fee for e-Tourist visa to India: $35 USD

Receive e-Visa result
Upon successful payment, you will receive confirmation on the website. Remember to check your email within the next 72 hours to receive approval notification from the Embassy. Additionally, you can use the confirmation code in the notification to check your e-Visa status.
Notes for Traveling to India
– Ensure you carry a copy of your online visa (ETV) when traveling.
– Online tourist visa (ETV) can only be applied for twice a year, cannot be extended, transferred, and is not valid for visiting restricted areas. The visa allows single entry, if more than twice you must visit the Embassy.
– Maximum visa application period before travel is 30 days, minimum is 4 days.
– Identification features of the applicant must be mandatory checked upon arrival in India.
