I. Ý nghĩa của Linking words là gì?
Từ nối (Linking words) trong tiếng Anh là những từ được dùng để kết nối các câu văn với nhau. Chúng giúp đoạn văn trở nên chặt chẽ, mạch lạc và logic hơn. Nếu thiếu các từ nối, câu văn và đoạn văn sẽ trở nên rời rạc và thiếu logic.
Một trong những tiêu chí quan trọng nhất mà các giám khảo đánh giá trong phần thi IELTS Speaking/ Writing của thí sinh là khả năng linh hoạt trong việc sử dụng các từ nối như because, but, although,... Điều này rất quan trọng vì tỷ lệ chiếm tới 25% tổng điểm giúp câu văn mượt mà, mạch lạc và logic hơn.
Ví dụ về đoạn văn sử dụng từ nối trong tiếng Anh:

➡ I put in effort in my studies because I aim for a high IELTS score (Because = Linking word to enhance the connection between 2 sentences).

II. Some types of linking words in English
1. Linking words indicating cause - result
We often use because, since, and as to provide reasons for something.

Furthermore, we can use because of to indicate the cause, however after because of + noun, not a clause.
Example: Because of her sickness, she hasn’t finished her work.
We use so, therefore to present the result of an action. In which, So often stands in the middle of the sentence, Therefore usually starts the sentence and is separated from the clause by a comma.

4. Linking words indicating relative clauses
- Both A and B: cả A và B
- Trường hợp 1: Both đứng đầu câu Both A and B + V
- Trường hợp 2: A and B both + V
- Either A or B: hoặc A hoặc B (A và B có thể là danh từ, động từ,…)
5. Linking words providing additional information
These linking words in English are used to provide, add additional information to the main point in the writing, speech, specifically the linking words below:

6. Linking words used for enumeration
Linking words used for enumeration - this group of linking words in English is often used to present each viewpoint of the speaker or writer. The linking words used help make the paragraph, sentence clearer. Refer to some linking words in English:

Linking words in English providing examples are often used to provide or add more points to the argument/ evidence in the speech, writing. Here are some common linking words:
