In the previous guide, we explained how to install a virtual machine using VirtualBox; however, the resulting virtual machine has only one hard drive. To partition the virtual hard drive in Windows 7 without using third-party software, follow the steps below.
Guide to Partitioning Virtual Hard Drive in Windows 7 without Third-Party Software

- For physical machines, a similar approach can be employed. In this article, Mytour will use the widely used and powerful virtual machine software VirtualBox to install the Windows 7 operating system and partition the hard drive.
Step 1: First, initiate the Windows 7 virtual machine by opening and running the VirtualBox software. Then, on the program's interface, press Start as shown below.
Step 2: After the virtual machine is booted, you'll only see one drive in use on the Computer.
To begin the hard drive partitioning process, you need to disable the Windows drive protection feature. Right-click on your computer and select Properties
A window will appear; here, click with the mouse and select Advanced System Setting
Switch to the System Protection tab, find and click on Configure.. as shown below
A new dialog box will appear; check Turn off system protection, then click Delete
Click Continue to confirm, then click OK to save the settings
Step 3: Next, go to Computer, right-click, and select Manage as shown below
Step 4: A new window will appear; here, click on Disk Management and then right-click on the drive you want to partition, choosing Shrink Volume
Step 5: Then, enter the new hard drive size in the Enter the amount of space in MB section, and click Shrink
Step 6: Wait for a moment, and you'll see a new black-colored drive. Right-click on this drive and select New Simple Volume as shown below
A dialog box appears; simply click Next
Choose the drive name and click Next, you can leave it as default if you prefer
Next, select the format and drive name, then click Next
Click Finish
Now you have an additional drive for data backup.
