Grab aims to make ride-hailing services convenient and economical for everyone. It allows driver-partners to serve more passengers, especially during peak hours when demand can be three times higher than usual, as a proactive solution to alleviate urban traffic pressure.
Leveraging the existing GrabCar platform, Grab recently introduced and tested GrabShare in Ho Chi Minh City, making GrabShare the fourth transportation service by Grab in Vietnam, alongside existing transportation services such as GrabTaxi and GrabBike. If you're interested in this service and curious about what GrabShare is and how fares are calculated, check out the following article for answers.
What is GrabShare? How are fares calculated?
GrabShare is a carpooling service recently launched by Grab for trial in Ho Chi Minh City and is expected to be tested in Hanoi around June 2017 to reduce the need for additional vehicles on the road by leveraging GrabCar's existing platform while providing more cost-saving travel options for customers. It helps users save costs as you can share your ride with other passengers heading in the same direction. Specifically, GrabShare allows passengers to enjoy fares up to 30% cheaper than regular GrabCar services, while helping driver-partners increase their income by 15% by combining two trips with the same route into one ride.
This is a new service that can be understood as riding with Grab and sharing costs with other passengers, so the fare for passengers to pay is only about half the amount of a normal Grab car ride. And of course, along the way, the vehicle will pick up other passengers with the same route and direction. To get passengers to their destination quickly with GrabShare, the system will pair two trips with the same route into the same ride. Passengers will only have to go through a maximum of 2 stops before reaching their desired stop. For example, if passenger A starts the ride and is paired with passenger B, depending on which route is more efficient, passenger A may reach the first stop to pick up passenger B and move to the second stop, which is also the destination of passenger B.
Each ride request can have a maximum of 2 passengers, meaning each GrabShare trip can accommodate up to 4 passengers, excluding the driver. When using this service, Grab also requires passengers not to keep the driver waiting for more than 3 minutes to avoid inconveniencing other passengers. All additional fees incurred during the trip apply to whoever passes through the fee area and will be split if both parties pass through this area.
