Windows 10 has been able to emulate x8632-bit applications on ARM for a while now, along with native 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Adding x64 emulation support will allow those systems to run a wider range of software. As a result, ARM-based Windows PCs and laptops will see significant utility improvements.

Many manufacturers, including Apple, are transitioning to ARM-based architecture in hopes of creating devices (primarily laptops) with significantly longer battery life than what's currently available. Maximizing app support could be crucial in the transition to ARM, so it's an encouraging sign that Microsoft is starting to roll out its x64 emulation.
