This evening, the VinFuture 2024 Awards ceremony took place at the Ho Guom Theater. Following the success of the previous three seasons, VinFuture 2024 set a new record by attracting nearly 1,500 research projects nominated by over 9,000 partners from more than 80 countries and territories around the world.

With the theme 'Breaking Boundaries with Resilience', VinFuture 2024 honors groundbreaking research and inventions that have a profound impact, helping humanity overcome difficulties and reach new heights.
After the success of the previous three seasons, VinFuture 2024 attracted a record number of nearly 1,500 research projects, nominated by over 9,000 partners from more than 80 countries and territories across the globe.
The number of international scientists serving as nomination partners has increased nearly eightfold, and the number of nominations has risen 2.5 times compared to the first season, demonstrating the global reach, influence, and international prestige of VinFuture.
This year's award system includes four categories, with the main prize worth 3 million USD, one of the largest awards worldwide. Additionally, three special prizes of 500,000 USD each are awarded to female scientists, scientists from developing countries, and those researching new fields.
The main VinFuture 2024 Award was presented to five scientists: Professor Yoshua Bengio and Professor Geoffrey E. Hinton (Canada), Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang, Professor Yann LeCun, and Professor Fei-Fei Li (USA) for their groundbreaking contributions to advancing deep learning.
Advances in deep learning have ushered in a breakthrough era for technological innovation, enabling machines to 'learn' from vast amounts of data and achieve remarkable accuracy in tasks like image recognition, natural language processing, and decision-making.
This achievement is due to the revolutionary contributions to neural networks and deep learning algorithms by Professor Geoff E. Hinton, Professor Yann LeCun, and Professor Yoshua Bengio. Additionally, Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang has pioneered the development of accelerated computing platforms, driving the explosion of modern AI (Artificial Intelligence). Professor Fei-Fei Li’s creation of the ImageNet dataset has also propelled advancements in image recognition systems, enabling large-scale deep learning model training.
Since 2012, deep learning has become a key tool driving major progress across various fields such as healthcare, automation, and financial services, shaping future innovation and development.
In addition to the Main Award, VinFuture 2024 also presented 3 Special Awards, each worth 500,000 USD, recognizing scientists for their research in new fields, female scientists, and scientists from developing countries.
Specifically, the VinFuture 2024 Special Award for scientists researching new fields was given to Professor Zelig Eshhar (Israel), Professor Carl H. June, and Professor Michel Sadelain (USA) for their development of CAR T cell therapy for cancer and other diseases.
The VinFuture 2024 Special Award for scientists from developing countries was presented to Dr. Firdausi Qadri (Bangladesh) for her innovative work in improving oral cholera vaccines for developing nations.
The VinFuture 2024 Special Award for Female Scientists was awarded to Professor Kristi S. Anseth (USA) for her advancements in polymer material design and methods for biomedical applications.
Commenting on this year’s theme, "Resilient Breakthroughs", Professor Richard Henry Friend, Chairman of the VinFuture Awards Council, shared that sustainability is a crucial aspect of maintaining a good quality of life. This is reflected in the nominations. Several awards from previous years have proven this point.
A unique feature of this year’s edition is that the program will honor the nominators who have made significant contributions in the mission of celebrating and advancing science for the benefit of humanity.
Beyond honoring groundbreaking achievements, the VinFuture Awards also serve as an opportunity for scientists from various countries to meet, exchange knowledge, perspectives, and diverse approaches, while strengthening the global network.
Although a relatively new award, VinFuture has made a significant global impact over its three editions. Many of its awardees have gone on to receive other prestigious awards, including the Nobel Prize.
Experts believe that the visionary approach and meticulous organization have helped VinFuture assemble renowned global scientific minds on its Award Council and attract high-quality nominations that hold great value for humanity.
As a result, VinFuture has quickly established its international reputation and asserted its position alongside long-established science and technology awards worldwide.
