Các kiểu so sánh hơn của trạng từ trong tiếng Anh
Việc hình thành dạng so sánh hơn của trạng từ phụ thuộc vào loại trạng từ: ngắn, dài hay bất quy tắc. Dưới đây là ba nhóm chính:
Trạng từ ngắn (trạng từ có một âm tiết)
Áp dụng với: Trạng từ có cùng hình thức với tính từ ngắn (thường là các từ không tận cùng bằng “-ly” và chỉ có 1 âm tiết).
Cấu trúc: adverb + -er + than
Ví dụ:
fast → faster than
She runs faster than me. (Cô ấy chạy nhanh hơn tôi.)hard → harder than
He works harder than his colleague. (Anh ấy làm việc chăm chỉ hơn đồng nghiệp.)late → later than
They arrived later than expected. (Họ đến muộn hơn dự đoán.)
Trạng từ dài (trạng từ có hai âm tiết trở lên và kết thúc bằng -ly)
Áp dụng với: Trạng từ được hình thành bằng cách thêm hậu tố “-ly” vào tính từ (gọi là trạng từ dài).
Cấu trúc: more + adverb + than
Ví dụ:
carefully → more carefully than
He drives more carefully than his brother. (Anh ấy lái xe cẩn thận hơn anh trai mình.)politely → more politely than
She speaks more politely than before. (Cô ấy nói chuyện lịch sự hơn trước.)quickly → more quickly than
They finished the work more quickly than we expected. (Họ hoàn thành công việc nhanh hơn chúng tôi kỳ vọng.)
Trạng từ bất quy tắc (irregular adverbs)
Một số trạng từ không tuân theo quy tắc thêm -er hay more, mà có hình thức so sánh đặc biệt:
well → better
badly→ worse
far→ farther / further
little→ less
much → more
Ví dụ:
He sings better than anyone in his class. (Cậu ấy hát hay hơn bất kỳ ai trong lớp.)
You behaved worse today than yesterday. (Hôm nay bạn cư xử tệ hơn hôm qua.)
She can travel farther by train. (Cô ấy có thể đi xa hơn bằng tàu hỏa.)
