Detailed Review of Vacation at a Hotel in Mui Ne, Vietnam
We spent our vacation in Vietnam from November 9 to November 20, 2018. The choice of hotel was based on reviews from various websites. Throughout the trip, our primary concern wasn't the hotel itself but rather the impressions we gathered from the Mui Ne tourist area. This review is highly subjective, as it marks our first visit to Vietnam and our second trip abroad (the first being to Turkey).
1. Accommodation: Our room belonged to the simplest category with a balcony overlooking the main street. While some might consider this a drawback, we found it not only non-disruptive but also emotionally enriching. Every evening after dinner, we would return to our room with fruits and unwind on the balcony. By 9:30 PM, life on the street would come to a standstill, and by 10:00 PM, it was serene and almost silent. We could sleep with the balcony open at night due to the absence of street noise. Occasional movement began around 5-6 in the morning, by which time we were already awake. The room itself was modest; the sockets were functional but tucked away behind furniture, necessitating a search. Insufficient lighting from the lamps in the evenings left the room somewhat dim. The absence of a lamp in the hallway near the front door was particularly bothersome. However, amenities such as the safe, air conditioner, refrigerator, and kettle worked perfectly. A makeshift child's bed was fashioned from two chairs.
2. Housekeeping: They cleaned our room daily, and it was generally well-maintained. However, towels and bed linen were only changed every third day, prompting me to contact reception. This should ideally have been done more promptly. Towards the end of our stay, we encountered another issue where there were insufficient towels after the room was cleaned. They had simply 'forgotten' to replace them, taking away the used ones. A call to reception promptly resolved this matter, although I had to do this for the last three days of our stay.
3. Staff: At the reception, only one staff member spoke and understood Russian. While communication in English with others was attempted, it was not always successful. Often, I relied on Google Translate for Russian to Vietnamese translations, supplemented by gestures, facial expressions, and drawings on paper. Fortunately, we did not face any problematic situations. A notable mention goes to Viet, the hotel's translator whose contact details are available at the reception. He speaks fluent Russian, understands the language well, and is always eager to assist. He helped me with queries about the hotel, room amenities, medications, arranging affordable taxis to Phan Thiet, and even surprised my wife with a bouquet of flowers on her birthday.
4. Hotel Grounds: The hotel grounds are lush and beautifully landscaped, meticulously cleaned, swept, and washed daily. The paths are paved with tiles or stone, becoming quite slippery after rain or cleaning – necessitating caution. There were always ample sun loungers around the large pool, although the smaller ones were rarely used. During the day, a waiter would pass by with a menu, offering snacks and beverages.
5. Beach: The beach area is divided into two sections – sun loungers under a canopy (three rows) and those under the open sky. Loungers under the canopy needed to be claimed by 7:00 AM, while there were usually plenty available in the sun. The beach itself was pristine, free of litter. We strolled along the shoreline, comparing our beach access with that of other hotels. In my opinion, Swiss Hotel stands out; I have yet to find another hotel with better beach access. However, like others, it faces challenges from waves and constant tides that erode the shore.
6. Breakfast: The hotel offers a diverse breakfast spread. While after eleven days it became somewhat monotonous, there was always variety. Eggs prepared in any style, toast, pancakes, soups, porridge, yogurt, rice dishes, sausages, bacon, pasta, meats, vegetables, cheeses, and fruits were available daily. The fruit selection, however, was not consistently exciting, typically featuring watermelon, passion fruit, local apples, and dragon fruit. Seafood was served once or twice, usually in the form of battered fish. Beverages included coffee, tea, and juices, accompanied by an assortment of sauces. We never went hungry and always found something suitable to feed our child.
7. Location: The hotel enjoys an excellent location, surrounded by numerous trendy cafes and restaurants catering to every taste and budget. Phan Thiet is 12 kilometers away; ordering a taxi through the hotel's interpreter costs 100 thousand dong, while the metered fare is around 130 thousand dong. The hotel is conveniently close to a shopping center, and we enjoyed a pleasant two-kilometer walk to BoKe. Everything else of interest was within a one-kilometer radius from the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and were very pleased with the hotel.
