A Detailed Review of Our Weekend Getaway
Overall, the new accommodation is quite tidy. It's a charming little resort situated on flat terrain, unlike the steep areas I've encountered elsewhere. Regarding the rooms: they are clean and cozy. When booking, make sure to ask if you prefer two single beds or one double. I noticed that the room with two single beds feels more spacious and includes a bathtub, while the one with a double bed is smaller and only has a standing shower. The rooms are divided into two sections. Rooms numbered 101-109 are located on the first floor, but unfortunately, the view from these rooms is quite limited, mostly obscured by surrounding trees. On the other hand, the 2xx and 3xx numbered rooms are situated in a three-story block, likely offering a better view. My group stayed in that section, but I didn't check the view myself. When it comes to dining, I prefer hearty meals, so I found the food satisfactory, although some might find it a bit rich. The food preparation seemed acceptable. However, it’s important to communicate your meal times clearly and ask the kitchen to prepare in advance. On our visit, even though we pre-ordered and requested our meal to be ready 30 minutes early, it still arrived 30 minutes late, leaving some tables finished eating while we were still waiting. The property features a small swimming pool located right in front of the restaurant. I noticed some wooden baskets nearby, but there were no swimming floats available. It’s advisable for children to bring their own floats. In the mornings, guests have the option to borrow bicycles for a ride down to the village. The road is quite steep with some small stretches, but along the way, there are beautiful terraced rice fields perfect for photographs. The resort also offers a small outdoor grilling area, which lacks tables and chairs; instead, guests sit on mats, with a low bamboo table in the center. When my group visited, we had one table and chairs, while the rest sat on mats. The atmosphere here is rustic, allowing for a relaxed grilling experience while enjoying music (there's a portable speaker at the resort, but we brought our own for convenience). You can enjoy a campfire while eating, and you’re welcome to prepare your own food to grill. There’s an additional fee of 700k for charcoal and boiled vegetables (cucumbers, herbs, corn, potatoes, lentils, chayote, carrots). If you prefer to order raw ingredients from the resort for grilling, the prices will be higher. I’d like to share my group’s itinerary for your reference. We had a total of 33 people: 20 adults and 13 children. Our trip spanned two days over the weekend. On Saturday morning, we set off early at 5 AM from Hanoi, arriving at Cham Stream around 9 AM. Once there, we took motorbike taxis to get into the stream (3-4 passengers per taxi, costing 50k round trip). At the stream, we rented a raft for 70k per adult, and two children counted as one adult. It’s advisable to wear sandals and bring extra clothing if you want to swim. The water is refreshing. Children can wear life jackets to jump into the stream or wade in the shallows. Our group really enjoyed this experience. After lunch at the resort on Saturday, we took the afternoon to rest and utilize the resort's amenities. That evening, we prepared a BBQ: our group brought food from home (I froze everything for a day or two before the trip, wrapping it in newspaper and placing it in a foam box, which kept it cold until lunch). We were informed that we had to finish by 10 PM. Our group received a reminder once, and soon after, the power was turned off, which some members found frustrating. On Sunday morning, we had breakfast before heading to Doan Street Market. Honestly, there’s not much to see at the market. It’s located on the way to Thac Hieu, so you can stop if you’re interested. Next, we visited Hieu Waterfall. We continued with the popular option of motorbike taxis (approximately 40k per trip). You can also choose to walk, which is about 850 meters; I walked up and took a taxi down. The waterfall is stunning, especially in the season when the water flow is strong, and it’s very refreshing. Make sure to bring a swimsuit if you plan to swim. If you go higher up, there’s an even more beautiful waterfall (not for swimming), but since it’s privately owned, there’s a 10k entry fee per person. This waterfall features a suspension bridge that offers a nice view. On Sunday afternoon, we had lunch at the resort. Given the size of our group, I made sure to book in advance to minimize movement. After lunch, we checked out and began our journey back to Hanoi. On the way, we stopped at Suoi Ca Than, but personally, I found it underwhelming, and getting there was complicated. I booked the accommodation for 1,200k per person, which included: a room for one night, two meals (one breakfast and one main meal), access to the spa (foot bath/sauna), and afternoon tea, which sounds fancy but is really just iced tea. In comparison to other locations, I think the price and service were fairly standard.
